About Us

Cranton Cross Road Community Centre occupies the building where North East Margaree Consolidated School once operated. The school was built in 1958 and was actively used until its closure in 2000, after which the building was taken over by the county. When the decision was made that the building was to be demolished, the North East Margaree Volunteer Fire Department decided to take over the building to ensure it would stay standing.

On January 27, 2006 a group of community minded volunteers spearheaded a Steering Committee  to transform what was previously North East Margaree Consolidated School into a space for all community members to enjoy. A series of Kitchen Meetings were held so community organizations, local businesses, and individuals could voice their opinions about how the Community Centre would be utilized and what they would like to see at the Centre.

In November of 2006, the Steering Committee came up with a Strategic Development Plan, which secured funding through Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation, to assist in getting the project off the ground. On November 6, 2006, the deed for the building was signed over from the Fire Department to the Steering Committee, and with the help of the many volunteers from the community, the Community Centre began to take shape.

Cranton Cross Road Community Centre opened for business in July of 2007, and continues to be a thriving, volunteer-run organization, which would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of community members.

As a non -profit organization, Cranton Cross Road Community Centre graciously welcomes monetary donations and kitchen/gym equipment donations. If you would like to make a monetary contribution, please send a check to 206 Cranton Cross Rd., Margaree Centre, N.S. and let us know which area of the Community Centre you would like to contribute to. We will keep the public up to date on improvements and purchases made each year. Thank you!
